Reducing corruption and increasing transparency in the work of municipal councils in Bulgaria.
This project of TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL-Bulgaria was implemented in seven Bulgarian municipalities within the period September 1999 – October 2000 by means of the financial support of “Local Government” program of “Open Society” – Budapest.
The project aimed to identify activities generating corruption in the work of municipal councils – the basic local authorities in Bulgaria.
Implementation of the project has gone through three stages:
As a result Analytical overview and Handbook for effective advocacy were published. Besides project conclusions they contain current information about the activities of municipal councils and steps for citizen participation in the process of elaboration and implementation of municipal policies.
