Transparency International – Bulgaria sent an official letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Kiril Petkov, regarding the lack of national legislation for the implementation of EU Directive 2019/1937 for the protection of whistleblowers.
EU starts the infringement procedure against Bulgaria launched on 28.01.2022 because Bulgaria is one of the counties that couldn’t implement the Directive before the deadline laid down in the Regulation.
TI-Bulgaria insists on active actions for the implementation of the Directive 2019/1937. The delay of the national legislation for protection of whistleblowing shows that the problems of Bulgaria of the fight against corruption continue to be neglected.
TI-Bulgaria actively participates in the process of implementing the Directive from the beginning and monitors the process of drafting national legislation as part of WIN (Whistleblowing International Network). Our team give consultations on possible legislative solutions with a wide range of stakeholders and would use its expertise on protection of whistleblowers tо help implement working legislation.
