Transparency International-Bulgaria strongly condemns the murder of Slovak investigative journalist Yan Kutsyak and his girlfriend Martina Kushnirova. According to media in Slovakia, Kutsyak was working on materials connected to tax frauds and was repeatedly threatened by local businessmen.
Another murder of a journalist in Europe happens only four mounts after the barbarian murder of Malta’s investigative journalist Dafne Caruana Galisia, investigating illegal deals and corruption shames in Malta.
The murders of investigative journalists are global problem, which worries Transparency International and shows the relevance of corruption levels to freedom of the media. For example, in Brazil which is ranked on 37th place in Corruption perception Index, 20 journalists have died in the last six years. Reporters in Brazil risk their lives every day, doing their work and directing their efforts to investigate corruption in local government and related drug offences.
Transparency International – Bulgaria call on authorities in Slovakia to take all necessary action and punish those who are responsible for the terrible crime.
