Transparency

This year, on International Anti-Corruption Day, we ponder on the devastating effects of COVID-19 on institutions, the economy and democratic processes in society.

Transparency International – Bulgaria has been working on the problems caused by corruption for more than 20 years as part of the global movement of Transparency International. This year we expanded our activities by becoming part of the Whistleblowing International Network WIN for the protection of whistleblowers.

We support collective action against corruption, through the involvement of many stakeholders and dialogue between institutions, business and civil society.

Since 2004, December 9 has been declared by the UN General Assembly as the International Anti-Corruption Day. A petition for a UN Convention against Corruption was opened in Mexico on that date. The UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) was approved by the UN General Assembly in 2003 and signed by 140 countries.

Bulgaria ratified the UN Convention against Corruption in 2006.
