New reporting requirements, uncertainties surrounding financial commitments and potential sanctions are putting businesses under pressure to prepare for an evolving regulatory environment. The Law on Transparency in Interest Representation and the upcoming transposition of the European Anti-Corruption Directive (Directive (EU) 2026/1021) raise a number of questions concerning costs, administrative burdens and the practical implementation of the new obligations.
These issues were at the centre of a meeting of the Business Integrity Club, held on 4 November 2026, with representatives of leading business and industry organisations. Key topics included how financial commitments related to interest representation should be calculated and reported, what methodological guidance is needed, and what economic impact the new anti-corruption requirements may have on companies and business organisations.
Participants also discussed concrete follow-up actions, including submitting a request for clarification to the Bulgarian National Audit Office, establishing an expert working group, and assessing the financial and administrative impact of the new regulatory frameworks.
